Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Teacher – Miss Rimmer
Teaching Assistant – Mrs Bennett

Welcome to the Year 6 class page. Here you’ll find all the key information you need for your child’s final year at primary school. Year 6 is a special and important year as the children prepare to make the exciting transition to secondary school. To help them get the very best out of their learning and opportunities, it’s vital that they are in school every day and arrive on time. If your child is unwell, please contact the school office to let us know of their absence.

P.E

P.E. lessons will take place every Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has a labelled P.E. kit bag in school. The kit should remain in school until the end of each half term, when it will be sent home to be washed.

The P.E. kit consists of:

  • A blue P.E. t-shirt
  • Black or blue shorts
  • Black P.E. pumps

Reading

Reading is at the heart of learning and regular practice at home makes a big difference to children’s progress. We use Reading Plus, which can also be accessed for homework and children will bring home a reading book every Monday to be returned by Thursday. Please ensure that your child records their reading in their green journal and that it is signed each week. Working together in this way helps to build fluency, confidence and a lifelong love of reading.

Homework

Homework in Year 6 will focus on supporting the key skills needed for success. Each week, children are expected to read regularly at home, both from their chosen reading book and through Reading Plus online. They will also practise arithmetic to strengthen their fluency with number facts and written methods. In addition, our homework menu, which offers a range of creative and topic-based activities, is available on the school webpage for families to access and enjoy together.

Year 6 SATs – May 2026

In May 2026, your child will sit their end-of-Key-Stage 2 SATs. SATs week will run from Monday 11th May to Thursday 14th May 2026. Here’s the daily breakdown:

Class Information

Attendance and Punctuality

It is important that your child has good attendance as the government sets a requirement of 98% attendance throughout the school year. It is also important that your child arrives on time as this minimises disruption to their learning. Please make sure that your child arrives to school on time. If your child is going to be absent, please ring school to let us know.

Uniform

Please ensure your child has the correct uniform and has their name in everything including their coat and P.E Kit. Their school uniform is a reflection of the class, especially when we are out of school or when we have visitors into the classroom.
