School Council
Our Student Council
Our school council is a group of pupils elected by their fellow pupils to represent their opinions and raise issues with the headteacher and governors in the school. The school council also takes forward projects on behalf of the pupils, and are involved in the planning of things such as the School Development Plan, governing body meetings and interviewing staff.
To be effective, the school council:
- Represent all pupils and include as many people as possible
- Take time to listen to all pupils and communicate their views
- Feed back to pupils about what happened about their views
- Make things happen – or explain why they can’t!
This year the school council have carried out surveys, workshops & opinion polls for the following subjects;
- School lunch choice (alternatives to help promote warm school lunches)
- School uniform (Encouraging correct footwear and hair accessories)
- Fair trade (projects with local supermarkets; e.g-Co-Op/raising awareness)
- Taking pride in our local area (Building a wall of pride detailing Kirkby landmarks)
The school council meets every 2 weeks to discuss relevant topics regarding our school.
The school council also meet up with councillors from surrounding Kirkby schools once a month. The council will talk about relevant issues affecting their schools as well as work on new projects to recognise achievements.
